Our shopping centres help fight heart disease
6 August 2010For the second year running Land Securities is teaming up with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) to help them launch their national appeal aimed at encouraging people to clear out their wardrobes and donate to the charity without it costing them a penny. The campaign, known as The Big Donation, will be running in 20 Land Securities' shopping centres located across the UK to raise much needed funds to help fight heart disease, the UK's single biggest killer.
The campaign kicks off today in The Bridges, Sunderland and will take place at other centres throughout August and September. The campaign will ask people to donate previously loved, good quality items and leave them at special locations within Land Securities’ shopping centres. At the end of the campaign the goods will be sold in local BHF shops in order to raise vital funds for research, education and care services for people affected by heart disease in each region.
BHF Area Manager, Nigel Bullock said, “Everyone at the British Heart Foundation, from our volunteers to our cardiac nurses, work tirelessly in the fight against heart disease. We rely on the support of local people to continue helping heart patients across the region. If everyone in Sunderland fills up a bag they will be helping to save lives in their community. It really is as simple as that.”

The Big Donation will give our shoppers a great reason to recycle which is a big priority for our shopping centres who aim to increase these levels year on year.”
BHF volunteers will be at each centre every day during the campaign to issue shoppers with a free donation bag. Visitors are invited to fill the bag with clothes, CDs, shoes, accessories, CDs, bric-a-brac, toys and books, and then return the bag to the Drop Point situated in the shopping centre before the end of the 2 week campaign.
